Walsh Federal completes modifications at U.S. Coast Guard Station Boston

Boston, Massachusetts - Walsh Federal has completed the design-build modifications at U.S. Coast Guard Station Boston to accommodate a new fleet of Sentinel-class Fast Response Cutters. The project included renovating the interior of two buildings and the construction of a new bulkhead, wharf and three floating concrete piers. The wharf and pier consist of coated steel pipe pile, precast concrete bents and beams, and a cast in place topping slab. Additionally, new floating docks, gangways and utility services were provided to the new wharf and pier.

The concrete piers are engineered to withstand demanding conditions. They are incredibly stable, due to their significant mass and low center of gravity, and able to handle the occasional hard landing of a 154-foot, 353-ton Sentinel-class cutter.
