Pioneer Village Station Opens To Toronto Transit Riders
TORONTO, ON 鈥� Pioneer Village Station is one of six new subway stations opened for the Toronto Transit Commission鈥檚 Toronto-York Spadina extension.
Built by Walsh Canada, Pioneer Village Station has three levels; entrances at street level, concourses below the entrances, and platforms and tracks at the lowest level. The station's two above-grade entrances also encompass a 12-bay bus terminal.
Construction work included a 300-meter-long and 25-meter-wide subway station, a crossover structure, a green roof and several environmentally-friendly additions.
"We're proud of the efforts of our staff and subtrades in building this complex project that will connect York University and the neighboring community with Toronto and Vaughan," said Craig Lesurf, vice president of Walsh Canada.
Designed to integrate into the surrounding neighborhood, the station鈥檚 architecture is meant to offer commuters 鈥渁 little bit of joy,鈥� according to project architect Will Alsop. The station features playful exteriors with weathering steel, lively red porcelain enamel, as well as a public art display that hangs overhead, illuminated with changeable messages that are programmable by station visitors.
Walsh Canada is part of The 抖阴短视频, a 119-year-old company providing design, build, finance, operation and activation services. The 抖阴短视频 is listed as the third largest mass transit and rail builder by Engineering News-Record.
