Archer Western Contractors Complete Historic Columbus Drive Bridge Repairs
Some say age is just a number, but if you are a major bridge this creates quite a different scenario. On Tuesday, July 24th, the re-opened after 5 months of grueling repairs by Archer Western. Although completed under budget, that is not to say there were not any surprises or "bumps in the road" along the way.
When working with and 86 year old bridge you have to be ready for anything. From resurfacing to steel elements to motor issues, there was a lot to uncover and repair to get the bridge in shape for the next 30-plus years of commuters. The project still came in under budget at $8.75 million.
Motorists and local business owners alike are happy to see the bridge restored and their commutes and business back to normal.
Built in 1926 at the cost of $420,000, the bridge received local historic designation in 2006.
